Day 2!

So today was day 2 of c25k as it shall now be known. I was definitely not clever enough to come up with that on my own. It was a good day. I put on my work out playlist and ran my little heart out. I noticed it was much easier today, and my heart rate did not get as high as last time. My breathing was not as bad either. Probably a fluke, but it made me feel good.

Todays work out:
5 min walk
1 min run, 1.5 min walk x8
5 min walk

1.61 miles.

Couch to 5k.

So, its been a while since I posted. I did P90 until Labor day and then things sort of fell apart. It definitely helped me, but rotating between two workouts got tiresome after a while. It didn't work well for my sort of ADD mentality. So, now that I am back from Hawaii (I did get a new swimsuit!) I am up for a new routine. My friend Maggie just finished her first 5k using couch to 5k, and I am so impressed my her, that I am going to try the same thing. I started tonight, and it is a nine week program, so I should be ready to run a 5k in mid-January.

Todays work out:

5 min walk warm up
1 min run, 1.5 min walk X 8
5 min walk cool down

Anyone want to join me? :)

Day 34

Yesterday I took my day off instead of today so that I could go eat a fancy restaurant week dinner at the Capital Grille! So, today was day 34, and I ran/walked for 45 minutes, 2.3 miles.

Excuses

Ugh. I feel like all I do is make excuses. Last week was a disaster. I had training and was in charge of a baseball game, dinner, etc. We were there from 6:30 to 5 on Thursday. So, needless to say, I did not get a chance to work out last week. Yesterday I ran/walked 2.3 miles in 45 minutes, and today I did the same. So, I guess those were days 32 and 33.

31

Long day at work, got home at 7, didn't want to. BUT, I walked 1.67 miles in 32 minutes. Not great, but for today, not bad.

Day 30!

I am so proud to have made it to today! There were a few hiccups along the way, but I am on my way. I don't actually have a scale right now (its on the way!), so I don't know how many pounds I have lost, but I know that clothes are fitting better, and I notice changes in measurements. Today I ran on the treadmill 2.3 miles in 45 minutes. Tomorrow I go back to the videos (my muscle is finally feeling better. I still need work on eating better but I know that this habit I am forming will be one that is good for me in the long run.

I took pictures today to document progress, but no posting here :)

Day 29

So, after my day off on Wednesday, I was still not able to use the left side of my body for anything, so after taking off Thursday and Friday (shame on me!!), I deem today day 29. I went for a run/walk in the gym. 45 minutes of run one minute walk one minute. I think the total mileage was 2.4 miles. I will run again tomorrow and hopefully Monday I can go back to the weights and videos, this muscle better cooperate!

Day 27 & 28

Yesterday was cardio - It was hard because with my pulled muscle under my arm, I was not quite able to do the yoga, or the crunches very well. It was frustrating, but it made it to the end of the video. It will be good to have the day off today to try and stretch out that muscle.

Ooops! Days 21 - 26!

Day 21 was a day off. Wednesdays are my day off :) It was a nice milestone. I am proud of myself!

Day 22 - Sculpt - Was tired, and didn't really want to do it but I did 12 reps with the 5 lb weights.
Day 23 - Cardio - I have to make a confession, I just couldn't bring myself to do the video, so I went down to the gym and walked 2.3 miles in 45 minutes on the treadmill. I will get back to the video next week but I needed a change, but still wanted to do cardio.
Day 24 - Sculpt - This day went well - I pulled a muscle under my arm but other than that I used the 5 pound weights and did 12 reps.
Day 25 - Cardio day - I went down to the gym and ran/walked 2.3 miles in 45 minutes. I ran one minute and walked the next.
Day 26 - Today is sculpt. I also ran/walked 1.5 miles in 30 minutes. Not a great pace, but it is a start! I was able to do the dips better!

I decided to start running because I am going to a pool party for labor day weekend with some college friends in VA so I want to look good!

Days 19 and 20

Yesterday was day 19 - Sculpt. I switched weights up by two pounds in each hand and did 12 reps per exercise to be sure I wasn't too sore today. It was good, and I feel stronger!

Day 20 - Cardio - I did more of the jumps and I am working on the balance for the kicks. The only crunches I really have a problem with are the last set- full body. They are hard! I need to remember to breathe.

Tomorrow will be three weeks!

Lost track...Day 18?

So, this week was a disaster. Everything about it. I was sick Thursday. I believe the only days I worked out were Monday (cardio) and Tuesday (sculpt). I am disappointed in myself, but today I got back on the wagon and did the cardio routine. I also moved a bunch of boxes that were quite heavy, so I did a bit of weight lifting :). So, we will call today Day 18, and I will be better this week. That is all I can ask of myself.

Send me some good vibes for this week!

Day 15

Not much to report today. Did the sculpt video. I need to go buy heavier weights. I was tired, but I was able to do 8 push ups each time we were supposed to. I will work that number up to 15, but when I started I couldn't do any!

Days 13 and 14

I have officially done 14 days of Power 90! While it doesn't seem like much considering how much I have left to go, I am proud that I have stuck with it.

Day 13 - Sculpt. This day was pretty tough. I had a terrible day at work, and Lucky got in trouble at daycare. I burst into tears in the lobby of the daycare. I was very tempted to just come home and crash. But, I managed to make myself do the dvd. I figured it was only 28 minutes, and I made it to the end! So while I wasn't in the best form, and probably could have tried harder, I get an A for effort!

Day 14 - Cardio. Today I had really tight calves again. I need to remember to stretch them out, and to drink lots of water during the day, even when I am not at work. I did more abs, but I couldn't do some of the jumps. I would give myself a B for today.

Day 12

Cardio - Today my calves were not very pleased with working out. Maybe I didn't stretch them out enough. I made it through, not a great work out, but at least I did it, right? I feel like I can do the ab routine better each time, although still when I get to the end I can barely do any of the last set!
I had a long pretty miserable day, so I am impressed I did it!

Day 11

Today was sculpt! I felt very strong today. I did most of the push ups and while they were on my knees, I could tell I worked hard. The dips are probably my worst of the group. I can even do all 15 reps of the rest of the exercises!

Days 8-10

Day 8 : Sculpt. I am feeling pretty good at most of the weight lifting exercises. The hardest part for sure is the push ups. Today I focused on doing the pushups well and having the correct form. It was hard, but worth it. I didn't eat great (well, actually, the food was fabulous, just not great for me).

Day 9 : I sort of fell off the wagon today. I did a lot of walking and running around with Lucky, but I didn't push play on my videos. I am still down on myself for that. I won't take a break on Wednesday, I will make Sundays my day off instead so I can stay on track.

Day 10 : I did the cardio work out tonight. It was hard, but I worked hard too. I can do more of the jumping and I did all of the run lunges. The hardest part was probably the abs at the end, but I feel like I am doing better at them each time I do the workout.

I didn't sleep well last night so I am going to bed early tonight to try to get enough rest to last the week. I have noticed that I am more awake during the days when I get exercise. That is a definite plus!

Day 7 - One Week!!

I made it one whole week. Today was cardio, and I pushed myself to do more of the jumps and the crunches. I am glad I have stuck to it so far, but I have a long way to go. I feel better already, and although I don't want to get my hopes up too much about how quickly I will see results, I compared a few measurements yesterday, and it seems I have already lost an inch in my waist! If that isn't motivation to keep going, I don't know what is! I think my prize this week will be going to see Harry Potter. I also need to go buy heavier weights for the coming weeks. Thanks for the encouragement, you know who you are!

Day 5/6

When I started Power 90, I decided to make Wednesday my day off. I am usually exhausted by the time Wednesday comes around, so I think a break is good. I started day 6 with minimal soreness, and even sort of looked forward to sculpt today! I have to say, the length of the workouts is no problem, once I push play, they go by really fast. The toughest part for me is the push ups, I have never really been able to do them, but I still give it my best shot. The dips at the end are hard too.

I have also been keeping track of what I eat on weight watchers online. I really enjoy their frozen meals, and they even have desserts! I need to work on eating more fruits and veggies. Today I was craving chocolate - so I opted for some chocolate covered fruit. Delicious, and fairly nutritious!

Day 4

I am not going to lie. Today was hard. I went to dinner with my friend Stephanie, and when I got home, I was NOT in the mood to work out. But, as I made a commitment, I 'pushed play', and did my cardio work out. My body was sore all day, so the beginning was tough. I did the yoga just fine, but the jumping jacks and cross work were tough. I got my head into it by the time the kickboxing came around and I finished strong. I did most of the 100 crunches (probably about 85 of them). I would say today is a success, if for nothing else, the fact that I did it when I didn't really feel like it.

New Work Out Plan

I got a call two weeks ago from my college roommate, Em, and she invited me to go to Hawaii in October. I was ecstatic about going, but it caused me to take a long hard look at how much I have let myself go over the last few years. It is embarrassing. Really really embarrassing. So, on this note, I ordered Power 90 (by the same people who made P90X) and started Saturday, July 9th. I am committing to 90 days of work outs 6 days a week. There are 2 workouts, cardio and sculpt. About half way through, I switch to slightly longer work outs.

Here are my thoughts on the first three days.

Day 1 : Weights have never been my thing. But, I powered through it, and the band they sent with the kit is too hard, so I went to target and bought some small weights. They are 3 lbs. Small, I know, but I want to start slow. I can always move up. The work out is 28 minutes, and there are three short stretching breaks.

Day 2 : I noticed my arms were a bit sore, but not bad. Sunday was cardio. I have always preferred cardio. It was fun. I definitely sweat a ton, and felt a lot more confident than I did on the sculpt workout. I had a bit of an issue with the power yoga, but I will get the hang of it. It ended with 100 crunches 10 of 10 different types.

Day 3 : Today my abs are definitely sore. But, in a good way. Back to sculpt. I am surprised by how much more I liked the weight lifting today than I did on Saturday. It was almost fun. I need major work on pushups, but that is what this is all about, right? Three days in!

I am going to give myself a small treat each week that I complete. I took a before picture, but I am not posting it until I have a comparison. My goals are not in pound terms, but rather to be more in shape and have my clothes fit better. Hopefully, I can rock a swimsuit in Hawaii. Wish me luck!

Another craft!

I always have so many started projects, but I just found out that my friend Carlos is having a baby boy so I had to make this little hat for him! I think it turned out soooo cute, and it really only took a few hours of knitting.

2011. My Year.

I want to use this blog to express my creative outlets. I love to knit and make cards, so I am hoping to show my finished objects here. The first FO of the year is an adorable hat made for a nephew of a guy I work with. I knitted it with Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool Dk in a smoky blue. Not quite baby blue, but I think its cute. I love the little cables to make it interesting.

I find almost all of my inspiration on Ravelry, I love that website! I also love visiting the ladies at Knitting in the Loop here in Houston. I took a class from them two weeks ago on continental knitting, and it was an absolute blast! I think my next project will be the vintage velvet scarf, shown here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/bepod/2428377107/, mine will be dark purple. I also want to make a cashmere cowl. Thats all for now!
